"We feel so honoured that Nick was surrounded by such a supportive environment these past 6 years. The emphasis placed on holistic learning and growth by Normo teachers, staff and community is greatly reflective in the achievements of all Normo students.”

Successes and achievements
In 2025, we celebrated a large number of student successes and achievements across a variety of areas, including but not limited to academics, sports, arts and competitions. The following are just some of the amazing work that students have demonstrated throughout the year:
5th Place at the First Robotics Competition Southern Cross Regional Competition
The NBHS Robotics Team, ‘Normanhurst Nitro’ attended the First Robotics Competition Southern Cross Regional Competition at Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre. They demonstrated their impressive robotic skills as they completed against 44 teams from and Asia-Pacific region including; various Australian states (WA, VIC, QLD, ACT, NSW), Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, China. Our team achieved an outstanding result, achieving 5th place overall - the highest result from a public-school team!
Silver Award at the Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival (ASBOF)
The Senior Concert Band represented Normanhurst Boys High School at the ASBOF, held at the NSW Conservatorium of Music. Performing in a more advanced division, the ensemble delivered a polished and expressive performance of challenging repertoire, earning a Silver Award for their efforts.
$19,000 Raised for the World's Greatest Shave
Our student leaders organised a fantastic event in support of the World’s Greatest Shave, raising money for a cause close to our hearts. The atmosphere was electric as students and teachers alike signed up to have their hair coloured or shaved, to help raise awareness and funds for blood cancer research. We were fortunate to have Hamilton from ACM Barbers in Hornsby volunteer his time for the event to help with the shaving. Over 40 students signed up for their head to be shaved.
Equal 1st Place in the Australian Geography Competition 2025
Our junior Geography students tested their geographical skills and knowledge against students from all around Australia in the 2025 Australian Geography Competition. As usual, we had several students who performed to a very high level in the Competition this year, with 24 students scoring in the top 1% in their Year Level across Australia, and 4 students who scored equal first in NSW. Over 52,000 students from 600 schools across Australia entered the Australian Geography Competition, so our school’s results place us among the top schools in the state.
27 Students Scored in the Top 1% Nationally in ICAS Science Competition
The ICAS Science Competition is a rigorous academic challenge designed to extend and stimulate high-achieving students through complex, higher-order thinking questions, while nurturing their scientific skills. In 2025, twenty-seven students from Years 7 to 10 earned a High Distinction award, placing them in the top 1% of participants across Australia.
3rd Place in the NSW Schools Titration Competition + 2 Perfect Scores
The NSW Titration Competition is an annual event that brings together talented students from across the state to showcase their analytical chemistry skills in a competitive environment. In 2025, three teams of Year 12 students represented the school at Macquarie University, achieving an outstanding result of 3rd place overall, with two students earning perfect scores.
2nd Place at the Interschool Chess Challenge 2025
After great success at the Qualifying Rounds at Burwood and North Sydney, and the Semi-Final Round held at Pymble, five of our strongest chess players proceeded through to the Finals held at Burwood, where they played against some of the most prestigious and strongest chess teams from public, private and independent schools across NSW. The students played very well and were able to secure 2nd Place, out of approximately 100 high schools which entered.
5th Place at the Lawn Bowls Inter Schools Challenge 2025
With the sun out and a cool breeze on the green, three students from Year 10 ventured out to Merrylands Bowling Club to compete in the State Final of the Bowls NSW Inter Schools Challenge. There were 16 qualifying teams from all over NSW including schools from Parkes, Central Coast and Pennant Hills, that had qualified through competitions earlier in the year. Across the two days, it was a close series of games, with the final round requiring an extra nailbiting tiebreaker which saw Normanhurst win by 2 points and attain 5th place overall.
Nominations of HSC Showcases
Like other HSC exams, the practical exams for Drama, English Extension 2 and Visual Arts are marked by experienced HSC teachers who are well-trained to consistently apply the marking guidelines to these works. During the practical HSC marking operations, markers identify exemplary works that reflect the syllabus outcomes and high achievement of the marking criteria. These identified exemplary works are known as a nomination. Once a nomination is accepted and all necessary supporting materials are received, the projects, submitted works and/or performances go through a comprehensive selection process to determine which are selected for a showcase.
3 students were nominated for Young Writers (HSC English Extension 2)
3 students were nominated for ENCORE (HSC Music)
3 students were nominated for ARTEXPRESS (HSC Visual Arts)
1 student was nominated for OnStage (HSC Drama)
