Year 11-12 English Advanced provides students with the opportunity to explore prose fiction, drama, poetry, nonfiction, film, media and multimedia. Students strengthen their knowledge and understanding of language and literature by analysing and evaluating texts, as well as appreciating the contextual significance of those texts. Texts studied in Year 11 include: Island by Alistair MacLeod, The Pardoner’s Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare’s play, Othello. In Year 12, students build on their reading through a study of George Orwell’s novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, the poetry of Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, and William Shakespeare’s play, King Henry IV Part I.
