Year 11-12 English Extension courses deepen students’ understanding of the characteristics and concerns of texts from the past, in particular, why they have endured, been borrowed from and/or appropriated in contemporary cultures. In Extension 1, one aspect we study is the way texts express diverse ideas, attitudes and perspectives in literature. Texts studied include Jane Austen’s novel, Pride and Prejudice, and the Bollywood film, Bride and Prejudice. In Year 12, students explore ‘Literary worlds’, and read the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Gail Jones’ novel, Sixty Lights.
