Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
In Years 7 and 8, PDHPE is a compulsory core subject, as students engage in a variety of individual or team sports. They begin to understand the skills students need to enhance their own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity in varied and changing contexts.
In Years 9 and 10, aside from the compulsory PDHPE course, Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) is offered as an elective.
In Years 11 and 12, PDHPE is offered as an HSC subject, with a focus on health of individuals and community as well as the factors that influence movement skills and physical activity levels. Students develop their critical thinking skills and develop a deep understanding of the factors that impact on health, sport and physical activity in Australia.
