Languages

In NSW high schools, languages is a key learning area.

Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of how people interact.

STAGE 4

At our school, students study both French and Japanese in Year 7, before selecting one language choice to focus on more intensely in Year 8. This provides them with a strong grounding for Stage 5 should they wish to continue learning the language of their choice.

STAGE 5

In Years 9 and 10, students can elect to continue studying the language that they chose for Year 8 to deeper their knowledge and understanding of the culture. In Year 10, as part of the Fourth Elective initiative, students may also wish to study Latin as an additional language.

STAGE 6

In Years 11 and 12, we offer French and Japanese as HSC subjects.

It is important to note that students wishing to study French or Japanese for Stage 6 must have completed the respective courses in Stage 5.
